Today was the team's last race before the prestigous Division 3 race, the Rotterdam Classic, and it all went to plan. Avery Nijholt led the field home in his home race Birmingham - Shrewsbury and was overjoyed at the end.
Talking to the press after the race he said "Going around the course today, seeing all the banners and fans wearing my merchandise was a very special feeling. I knew I had to deliver and felt the pressure. Upon entering the final kilometers my legs were spent but the fans kept me going. I owe this victory to them, and to my superb teammates."
The team now focus on Rotterdam, where Nijholt is looking to defend his championship. This time he will have better support, and will go into the race as the favourite.
Team manager Blue Bolt gave a short speech earlier saying "This race is very special to the squad being the very first classic they ever entered and the biggest win in the short history of the team. We are aiming to do it again, and its been our whole aim this season to do that." He went onto say that "next year we hope to be in Division 2 and have Nijholt in the Dragon Jersey (Winner of Cymru Taith), so this may be our last chance to win this prestigous race".
Further to speculation linking Nijholt with a move away from Emerge, the management moved to say that they are not in the market to sell there best riders and therefore he isnt for sale at any price!!!!!!
